Elder Hales

I am a lucky man. Today I had the fantastic opportunity to listen to Elder Hales directly. Here is a summary:

  • Many are called but few are chosen - We were lead to this job. We should seek the guidance of the Lord in our work. This isn't just another job.
  • The Grist Mill - Decisions are made by committee ( he prefers to call them Councils ) because the decisions made must be as good as possible for all affected people/organizations. We must avoid feeling like we know the right answer for our projects and avoid the desire to push it into 'production' before it has been carefully considered by all involved. Sometimes we pray for patience and we want it now! He compared it to a grist mill. Yes it turns slowly. The ideas are like grain poured into the grist mill. As it turns, the grain is ground into flour that is beneficial for all. The process can be slow but it is necessary.
  • All things unto me are spiritual -
  • Watchmen on the Tower - as watchmen on the tower, we must speak up when we see dangers coming. Example of the cyber attack on a European bank
  • Target fixation - Don't be so focused on your target that you fly your plane into the ground. Don't stay on one project too long or you will invariably go down in flames.
  • Always have a wingman, try to never fly solo.
I feel for the first time that I really was lead here. I felt the Spirit.
