On going Ubuntu

So, my good buddy Jared tried to get Ubuntu + Xgl + Compiz Fusion working a couple days ago. It was an amazing adventure through the innerds ( yes, I meant 'nerds' ) of Linux. He got compiz to work in single monitor mode. However, the dual monitor + compiz fuzion combo would prove unsolvable in Polynomial Time. So, he left me with 2 GNOMES running ( one on each monitor ). That in itself is surprisingly like a two-headed ogre. I can start Firefox in one Gnome but then the other Gnome won't start it and I can't drag windows between the two. Just for my reference, here's some command line stuff that I may need to use in the future:

> cd /etc/X11
> cp xorg.conf.1 xorg.conf
> /etc/init.d/gdm restart
> less /var/log/X11.0.log
> X -configure #this creates a xorg.conf.new in home dir
